The former Indian cricketer and current commentator slammed Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) leg-spinner Suyash Sharma over his attempted wide ball to prevent Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Yashasvi Jaiswal from his hundred in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 16.
Jaiswal was batting on 94 but he was at the non-striker's end in the 13th over. Meanwhile, RR's captain Sanju Samson played a dot ball on the final delivery of the 13th over of the chase as Suyash bowled one down the leg-side but Samson managed to straight bat it and prevent it from possibly going for four wides.
The leg-spinner had a brazen smile on his face at the end of the over after which Samson signalled to Yashasvi to finish the game with a six in the next over to complete his hundred as RR only needed three runs after Suyash’s over.
Meanwhile, the commentator took this matter to Twitter where he addressed this issue.
"Trying to bowl a wide to prevent Yashasvi from getting to his 100….poor taste IMHO [in my humble opinion]," Aakash Chopra wrote on Twitter.
After watching fans arguing over his tweet, the former cricketer came up with a hypothetical situation to justify his criticism of Suyash.
"Imagine a Pakistan bowler doing that to prevent Kohli from getting to his century. The same people who are giving gyan [lecture] on how it’s absolutely okay…and that it wasn’t deliberate…will ensure that that bowler starts trending in minutes. Typical Twitter behaviour IMO [in my opinion],” he added.
The 21-year-old opener scored his 98* with the help of five sixes and 13 boundaries, while the skipper Samson remained unbeaten on 48 from just 29 balls. The 21-year-old opener took his IPL 2023 tally to 575 runs, which is second most in the tournament, only one run behind Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper Faf du Plessis.
Rajasthan completed the target of 150 in just 13.1 overs at the Eden Gardens. The massive win also helped RR make their way back into the top four with 12 points from 12 matches and an improved run rate of +0.633.
